In simple terms, coaching is the act of working together to overcome obstacles, build interpersonal skills, enhance your creativity, develop problem solving tactics, and create action plans for building a better career/project/work force/life. Working with a coach helps channel your focus on key issues, and creates an accountability partner in a safe, secure, and confidential environment.
Coaches have been called many things including: thought partner, accountability agent, confidant, guided discussion expert, challenger, team builder, and even friend. Coaches believe, fundamentally, in four guiding principles:
- You are whole and unique
- You have a desire to achieve
- You are the director
- I (coach) am a facilitator
Coaching isn’t just a fad. Since the 1980’s, when coaching first hit the organizational development scene, coaching has grown into a powerful and vital tool in many executives tool chests. The industry has grown exponentially as business leaders looked to enhance their own productivity as well as that of their teams and employees.
Andrew holds his certification from both the International Coaching Federation (ICF) as an Associate Coach (ACC) and from the National Board of Certified Counsellors (NBCC) as a Board Certified Coach (BCC). These certifications ensure Andrew operates with the required knowledge and under strict ethical guidelines that ensure your coaching experience with Angle of Attack is a productive, safe, secure, and fun. Andrew’s specialty is Executive and Leadership coaching.
While helping people achieve their dreams is one of Andrew’s passions, his career is in aviation and currently works for a major United States airline as a pilot. Aviation is a special business, and flying aircraft all over the world requires rigorous training and constant improvement to ensure pilot’s know what is going on at all times. This process is called “situational awareness” or the act of knowing where you have been, where you are now, and where you are going. Andrew has made a career utilizing this process to fly millions of people all over the world, and coaching has its own version of this model.
ACE, which stands for Awareness (where you’ve been) Choice (where you are now) and Execution (where you are going) is situational awareness for leaders. By bringing together both facets of Andrew’s career paths, you will get a coach who understands the importance of knowing exactly where a coachee is, where they want to go, and how they plan to get where they are going while pushing the limitations set in the coachees mind.
Finally, coaching is NOT: Therapy, counselling, consulting, head shrinking, teaching, mentoring, or any type of athletic coach (sorry). If, however, through our engagement we do come across the need for one of these resources, we will work together to find someone who can best suit those needs.
