It is a well known fact, that writing down a personal goal has the benefit of focusing internal drive, adapting to changes, and striving to accomplish your mission, sometimes without you even noticing. In fact, most people who practice this report a funny phenomenon where they look back on past goals and realize they have accomplished many of them without even realizing it!

If you find yourself in the habit of writing down your goals, then why wouldn’t you write down the goals of your organization? Or, if you are not in this habit yet, perhaps now is the right time to start! If you and your organization already have a strategic plan, how is it going? Is it time to refresh it?

At its core, strategic planning is about goal setting for an organization. Sure, you want to make more money, or expand into another area of service, or reach more of those in need through your outreach program. But, are these goals written down anywhere? Does your team know what your primary goal is right now? What are you all working to achieve? Is there a default setting people can go to that guides them in their decision making?

Moving beyond its core of goal setting, strategic planning is about taking an in-depth dive into your organizations mission and values and takes a deep look at what your strength’s and weaknesses are. After this, we move into the planning phase where we address the opportunities and threats your group will face. In the end, tactics are covered, and a robust plan is put together that results in your organizations goals and mission for the next year and beyond. Just like that, everyone is on the same page and together everyone marches toward the end goal.
